Happy July 4th

Coca-Cola Means Patriotism

Quick…name a product brand that is highly patriotic. If you said Coca-Cola, you’re not alone. It’s no secret to most that the Coca-Cola Company is as American as apple pie (maybe even a little bit more), but the results of a recent Brand Keys Inc. poll shows that respondents largely associate Coke with patriotism. Only two other companies ranked ahead of Coca-Cola, and just barely. So the numbers bear out what we already knew.

Coke Means the American Life

But why is the Coca-Cola brand seen as so particularly American? Most of that feeling can probably be attributed to how fully Coca-Cola is integrated into life in America. For well over a century Coke has been a part of the day-to-day life in the United States. Beyond the mundane, though, Coca-Cola is also firmly associated with the special events that make American life so rewarding. As Americans, we mostly get to live our lives to the fullest, and when we’re sharing those moments with friends and family, we’re also sharing a Coke.

Coke Supports Our Troops

The Coca-Cola Company has also been a staunch supporter of the United States military. As we saw in an earlier post, Coke set up facilities abroad during World War II in order to bring a little bit of home to the servicemen and women overseas. That tradition and commitment has continued on into the twenty-first century.

Coke Cheers on Our Olympians

The Coca-Cola Company has also been a constant source of support for the Olympic teams throughout the years. As our nation’s remarkable athletes travel the globe representing our country at the highest level of competition, Coke is right behind them rooting them on to victory.

Coke Advertising

Advertising also shares some of the credit for Coca-Cola’s national identity. Throughout the years, the way we see ourselves as Americans has been both reflected and shaped by the images seen in Coca-Cola’s ubiquitous ads.
