Celebrate July 4th Safely

July 4th is upon us again and with it comes the annual celebrations. While there are lots of ways that folks in the Rock Hill area can join in the festivities, we here at the Rock Hill Coca-Cola Bottling Company want everyone to celebrate July 4th safely. We’ll start with the obvious recommendations about firework safety, then move on to a few other tips.

Firework Safety

If you plan to handle fireworks, prioritize safety. Purchase legal fireworks from reputable vendors and use them in designated areas. Always have a bucket of water or a fire extinguisher nearby and never relight malfunctioning fireworks. A pretty display isn’t worth a fire or a finger.

Sun Protection

Before the fireworks displays, the sun can be intense, so it’s important to protect yourself. Apply sunscreen with a high SPF, wear a wide-brimmed hat, and use sunglasses to shield your eyes. It’d be a shame to celebrate July 4th safely with fireworks only to end up with a nasty sunburn.

Stay Hydrated

Whether you’re attending a July 4th event, enjoying the outdoors, or just hanging out at the neighborhood bbq, remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Coca-Cola products will also do the trick, so be sure to have plenty on ice in the cooler.

Practice Water Safety

If you plan to enjoy water activities, such as swimming or boating, make sure to follow water safety guidelines. Wear life jackets when necessary, swim in designated areas, and supervise children at all times.

Grilling Safety

If you’re planning a bbq, take precautions to prevent accidents. Place the grill in a well-ventilated area away from structures and flammable materials. Keep children and pets at a safe distance and never leave the grill unattended.

Food Safety

While you’re at it, ensure proper food handling and storage. Keep perishable items refrigerated until it’s time to serve them, and don’t leave food out in hot temperatures for extended periods. Use separate cutting boards and utensils for raw and cooked foods to prevent cross-contamination.

Stay Alert for Fire Hazards

With increased outdoor activities, be cautious of fire hazards. Avoid open flames near flammable objects, be mindful of fire pits or bonfires, and properly extinguish fires when finished. Pay particular attention to recent weather: if it’s been dry, double up on your fire safety practices for every aspect of your July 4th.

Be Considerate of Noise Levels

While not an actual safety tip, this one is just as important for community life in the Rock Hill area. Keep in mind that loud noises from fireworks or celebrations can be distressing to pets, wildlife, and some individuals. Be considerate of your surroundings and take steps to minimize noise disturbances.
