Digital De-Cluttering on a Winter Afternoon

Given the inherently unpredictable nature of winter temperatures around the Rock Hill area, the Rock Hill Coca-Cola Bottling Company is skipping the picnic trip this month. Instead, we’ve come up with a productive way to stay indoors: digital de-cluttering.

We’ve all heard of spring cleaning. Throw open the windows and doors on a warm day in spring and get that house clean! Mid-winter is no time to throw open doors, but you can still do some cleaning of the digital variety.

Pour yourself a Coke, gather all your phones, tablets, laptops, and other devices, nestle into the couch, and get to the digital de-cluttering.

App Clutter

Although many devices now clear some of the unused apps, take some time to get rid of anything that you don’t regularly use. You can always download them again if need be. Also, organize your apps into a system that makes sense for how you use them. No more scrolling through screens of apps to find the one you really want.

Bookmark Check

Open up your browser. Look at your bookmarks. Which ones have gone unchecked in the last year? Are any of them outdated or no longer active? Delete the ones that need to go away. Reorganize the rest.

It’s Time for Some Un

Unfollow accounts that no longer interest you. Unsubscribe to those emails that you never read anyway. Taking the time to Un- saves you from some amount of digital clutter down the line.

Clear the Queue

All those streaming services offer more programming than you could ever watch in a lifetime. You’re not really going to watch all those shows that you’ve added to your list. Be honest with yourself and delete the ones that will never make the cut. Cull the titles you’ve already watched.

Update Contacts

This one could take a while. Better get another Coke. Delete any contacts that are no longer relevant to you. That one guy from that one thing eight years ago? Gone. Consolidate the multiple entries for the same contact. When you’re finished here, you can reach out to that contact you’ve been meaning to for a while.

Ready for the New Year

An afternoon of digital de-cluttering will do wonders for your state of mind in the coming year. By spring you’ll be fresh and ready to take on the hallway closet!
