A week’s worth of Winthrop University Homecoming 2016 celebrations will come to a head on Saturday, November 12th as Winthrop University hosts a day of tailgating, sports, and a step show. The many traditional activities will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue throughout the day.
Tailgating and Volleyball
Events around the Coliseum will begin at 9 a.m. The tailgating will last all day as students and alumni gather to root for the home team and to reminisce over the good old school days. At 1 p.m. the Winthrop Volleyball team will take on the UNC Asheville Bulldogs. This game will mark Senior Day for the team, and Senior players will be recognized.
Basketball and Homecoming Court
The Basketball team will go head to head with the Ferrum College Panthers starting at 4 p.m. This game will begin the season for the Eagles. The Coliseum is sure to be filled with Winthrop pride, the fans decked out in garnet and gold. The Homecoming Court will be presented during half-time. Which of the four ladies and four gentlemen vying for the coveted crowns will win?
Step Show
After the game, students, alumni, and university fans will head over to Byrnes Auditorium on Winthrop’s campus for the annual National Panhellenic Council Step Show. This perpetually crowd-pleasing show will begin seating at 7 p.m.; the show starts at 8 p.m. It will literally be a foot-stomping good time!
Reunions
Winthrop University graduating classes of years ending in 1 or 5 are celebrating milestone reunions this year. Notably, the Class of 1966 will be marking 50 years during the weekend. A special luncheon at 11 a.m. in McBryde Hall will be followed by a class meeting. Other classes will also be getting together.
