As the weather warms up and spring gives way to the early days of summer, there’s no better time to fire up the grill in Rock Hill! Backyard get-togethers, family barbecues, and evenings spent outdoors call for delicious food — and what better way to celebrate than by adding a Rock Hill Coca-Cola twist to your grilling game?
Today, we’re sharing a crowd-pleasing recipe that’s simple, savory, and just a little bit sweet: Coca-Cola BBQ Chicken. Whether you’re hosting a neighborhood cookout or just enjoying a quiet dinner on the patio, this recipe brings bold flavor with the unmistakable touch of a Coca-Cola classic.
Coca-Cola BBQ Chicken
Ingredients:
- 4-6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
- 1 cup Coca-Cola (Original)
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
Directions:
- Prepare the Coca-Cola BBQ Sauce
In a medium saucepan, combine the Coca-Cola, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. - Preheat the Grill
While the sauce is simmering, preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 375–400°F). - Season the Chicken
Lightly season the chicken with salt and pepper on both sides. - Grill and Baste
Place the chicken on the grill. Cook for 6–7 minutes on each side, brushing generously with the Coca-Cola BBQ sauce after flipping. Continue to grill and baste until the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. - Serve and Enjoy
Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes. Serve with extra sauce on the side for dipping — and, of course, an ice-cold Coca-Cola to wash it down!
Why Coca-Cola?
Coca-Cola’s signature caramel notes and bright, fizzy sweetness make it a fantastic ingredient for barbecue sauces. It tenderizes meat, balances smoky flavors, and adds a nostalgic Southern charm that feels just right for gatherings here in Rock Hill.
Whether you’re grilling by the lake, tailgating at a game, or just soaking up the Carolina sun in your backyard, adding Coca-Cola to your recipes brings a little more joy to every bite.
