These super-simple Jiggly Hearts are a fruity, fun Valentine’s Day treat for the whole family. With some experimentation in the flavor combinations, you can create a wide array of sweet hearts for your sweethearts.
Ingredients
- 2 boxes flavored gelatin mix (for a total of 6 oz)
- 16 oz Sprite (or other Coca-Cola product)
Equipment
- medium pot
- 9×13 baking dish
- cooking spray
- paper towel
- plastic wrap
- heart-shaped cookie cutter
- serving platter
Directions
Bring the Sprite to a boil in the medium pot. Stir in the gelatin mix. Stir until the mix is completely dissolved.
DO NOT add any more liquid! Ignore the directions on the box. The limited liquid is what will allow the Jiggly Hearts to retain their jiggle.
Spray the bottom of the baking dish with cooking spray. Using a clean paper towel, lightly wipe out the spray. Don’t wipe it all away.
Gently pour the gelatin and Sprite mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Tap the dish lightly to allow any bubbles to rise to the surface. For a smooth surface on the Jiggly Hearts, eliminate the bubbles either by popping them with a toothpick or by scooping them out with a spoon.
Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap. Place the dish in the refrigerator. Allow to set for several hours. Don’t rush this part of the process. If you try to cut the Jiggly Hearts too soon, they will not hold their shape.
After the gelatin is fully set, remove the dish from the refrigerator.
To make the Jiggly Hearts easier to remove from the dish once you’ve cut them, run warm water in the sink to a depth of a little more than 1 inch. Place the dish in the water for 20 seconds or so. Thicker dishes will need to rest in the water longer.
Using the heart-shaped cookie cutter, press the hearts into the gelatin. Alternate directions of the heart from top to bottom to maximize the number of hearts you will get from your pan.
Gently lift the Jiggly Hearts from the pan and place them on the serving platter.
Enjoy your Jiggly Hearts!
Combination Tips
Your choice of gelatin flavors and Coca-Cola product will make a world of difference in how your Jiggly Hearts turn out. Strawberry gelatin with Sprite will yield pink hearts. Cherry gelatin with Cherry Coke will give you a much deeper red. By mixing the options, you can end up with a whole rainbow of colors and flavors. Don’t forget the wide variety of Fanta flavors!
