April Events in Rock Hill

Who cares if April showers are coming this way? The Rock Hill area will already be awash in a wide variety of April events. The big one, of course, is the Come See Me Festival, but you’ll learn more about that extravaganza a little bit later. Check back to this blog in the middle of the month for more details about Rock Hill’s biggest event.

For now, you can satisfy yourself with athletic events, rock workshops, high culture, and maybe a trip to space (sort of).

Area Eleven Special Olympics

On April 7th, Cherry Park in Rock Hill will be the site of the Area Eleven Special Olympics. On that Friday over 1,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities with gather to compete in 16 track and field events. Every year participants from York, Chester, and Lancaster Counties get the chance to show off their skills. Volunteers are a necessity to make the day great for everyone, even if you’re just cheering on the athletes.

School of Hard Rocks

On April 1 from 9-12, the Museum of York County will offer a Geology Workshop. No fooling! Participants can learn something about the ground beneath their feet in the Piedmont region. If you really dig it, you can continue your day on the optional field trip to Forty Acre Rock and the Great Dike of Pageland in Lancaster County after the workshop.

Merchant of Venice

The bard will be onstage as the Winthrop University College of Visual and Performing Arts presents Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. Shylock will be demanding his pound of flesh from April 5-8 (8 p.m.) and on April 9 (2 p.m.).

Lunch with and Astronaut

Finally, you can take a lunch break in the stars. Well…not exactly. But you can each lunch with astronaut Dr. Tom Jones. On April 12 from 12-2, Dr. Jones will munch on some pizza while answering all your questions about space travel. Families will also receive a copy of Dr. Jones’s book Ask an Astronaut.

Just a Glimpse

That’s just a brief look at the many opportunities available to the residents of Rock Hill, York County, and the surrounding area. The Rock Hill Coca-Cola Bottling Company is pleased to serve such a vibrant and diverse region!
