February 2018 Events in Rock Hill

York County and the surrounding communities are stuck in the middle of winter, but there are more than enough exciting events happening in February to keep everyone warm and happy. Check out these five activities to shake off the winter blues.

Red Planet Rising

On February 1st the Museum of York County’s Settlemyre Planetarium will host the world premier of a new full-dome planetarium show. “Red Planet Rising” focuses on Mars and covers every aspect of that fascinating planet. The audience will hear about the planet as it appears in mythology, history, literature, movies, television, and, of course, science. The hour-long show is free with museum admission and will begin at 3:30 p.m.

Not Just Another Love Story

This show at the NarroWay Theatre and Conference Center remembers America’s Greatest Generation. Not Just Another Love Story tells the Biblical story of Hosea, but sets the events in the United States during WWII. In addition to a great show, the audience will also enjoy a down-home cooking dinner. Veterans of WWII will be admitted free. The show runs until February 24th.

By Way of the Back Door

As part of Black History Month celebrations, Historic Brattonsville will be offering special tours entitled By Way of the Back Door on Saturdays during February. Tours begin at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will offer visitors a glimpse of the lives of slaves at Brattonsville. The living history demonstrations bring to life an often forgotten part of the region’s heritage.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins

Everyone else might be tired of the cold, but not Mr. Popper’s Penguins. As part of the Clover School District Performing Arts Series, the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte will put on this delightful show inspired by the classic book by Richard and Florence Atwater. The show will be on February 15th from 7 to 9 p.m. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

Share a Coke with Your Sweetheart

Don’t let the month of Valentine’s Day pass by without spending some quality time with the one you love. Sometimes it’s the simplest moments that are the best. This year, leave the grandiose gestures behind and get back to a nostalgic date: sharing a Coke. Pick one of the many quiet spots around Rock Hill, order a Coke, ask for 2 straws, and make a memory together.
