Even though it’s the shortest month, February will still bring plenty of opportunities for fun in the Rock Hill area. With winter weather driving most activities indoors, you’ll find lots of options in the theaters.
Samson: The Last Judge
The NarroWay Theatre and Conference Center in Fort Mill will put on a dinner show featuring famed strongman and Old Testament figure Samson. The show will run from January 7th through February 25th from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. The accompanying dinner will reflect the theme of the show with eastern Mediterranean inspired fare.
By Way of the Back Door
Each Saturday in February Historic Brattonsville will offer a guided tour of the site that will address the lives of enslaved people who lived and worked in Brattonsville. Tours will take place at 11 and 2.
Route 66
As part of the Clover School District Performing Arts Series, the show Route 66 will appear onstage February 9th at 8 p.m. This show merges rock and road along one of the most iconic highways in the country. Get your kicks on Route 66.
The Wiz
From February 15th through 19th, the Winthrop University College of Visual and Performing Arts will produce a staging of The Wiz. This Tony Award winning musical imagines the story of Dorothy and her adventures through the Land of Oz in an African-American context.
The Suffers
At the McCelvey Center Family Theatre on February 18th at 7:30 p.m., the 2017 Southern Sound Series will continue with The Suffers. This 10-piece band is rooted in African-American gospel music and features the a rousing horn section. Led by the vocals of Ms. Kam Franklin, The Suffers will raise the roof with their blend of rock, soul, and funk.
Music and Laughter
It’ll be an evening of all things southern on February 25th at 7:30 p.m. at the Gettys Art Center in Rock Hill. A Winter Cabaret with Boo Sheppard, Ron Parks, and Mark Lewis will bring the South front and center with the delightful and wide-ranging Sheppard. Boo’s performance will be preceded by light jazz performed by Winthrop University professors Dr. Ron Parks and Dr. Mark Lewis.
So don’t worry about the cold, winter weather. These shows will keep you plenty warm.
